(Kansas City, MO – August 1st, 2017) – Christopher T. Cummings, D.O., has joined St, Joseph’s Surgical Associates, affiliated with St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, MO.

Dr. Cummings returns to Kansas City after completing his post-doctoral training at OSF St. Francis Medical Center/Children’s Hospital of Illinois in Pioria, Illinois. A native of Kansas City, Dr. Cummings’ family are well acquainted with the local medical community. His father, Kevin, and eldest brother, Matt, practice dentistry in Lee’s Summit, MO. His mother, Mary, has been an RN for over 30 years. Jenny Porto, his sister, is an orthopedic physician assistant in Overland Park, KS. His younger brothers, Sean and Scott, also work in the medical field. Sean works for a local medical supply company and Scott is an RN in the Truman Medical Center ICU.

Dr. Cummings attended Rockhurst High School and received a football scholarship to Missouri Western State University. He played football for 4 years and received a Bachelor of Science in Biology graduating Summa Cum Laude. He attended medical school at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, where he met his wife, Lauren. Upon completion of medical school, Dr. Cummings matched into the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria (UICOMP) General Surgery residency program.

Dr. Cummings returns to Kansas City eager to raise the level of surgical care available to patients. He takes special interest in minimally invasive surgery, including both laparoscopic and robotic techniques. He is trained in the latest technology, including robotic inguinal and ventral hernia repair. He has also been trained to treat diseases of the foregut (reflux) and colon utilizing robotic surgery. In addition, he is well skilled in traditional techniques for a wide variety of surgical problems including complex hernia repair and takes a special interest minimally invasive weight loss surgery.

When not busy with general surgery, Dr. Cummings enjoys spending time with his wife who is currently a Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellow at Children’s Mercy Hospital and their two-yearold son, Benjamin. He is a big fan of the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs. Dr.Cummings enjoys running, snow and water skiing, and prides himself as a movie and music buff. Dr. Cummings believes faith, family, and friends are the most important things in life.

Dr. Cummings also sees St. Joseph Medical Center as positioned for growth. “With the hospital’s convenient location, right off 435 Hwy, there is tremendous opportunity to develop the hospital’s General Surgery services,” Dr. Cummings says. “The potential is very exciting. Working with St. Joseph Medical Center will allow me to provide high quality patient care in Johnson County, Jackson County and in the surrounding areas,” Dr. Cummings says. “This is an opportunity to care for patients conveniently close to home and to make a real impact on their lives.”
