Kansas City, Mo. – St. Joseph Medical Center invites the community to attend a free event exploring the link between genetics and breast cancer on Wednesday, October 27, in the Medical Mall Atrium at St. Joseph Medical Center on I-435 and State Line Road.

The Breast Center at St. Joseph will be providing walk-in mammograms from 4-6 p.m., participants will need a photo ID and insurance card. Champagne and h’ordeuvres will be served from 5:30-6:30 p.m., while women are invited to have photos taken with their “favorite genes” (mothers, daughters, friends, etc.).Presentations from Larry J. Geier, MD, and Julie Markey, will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Dr. Geier is board certified in Medical Oncology, Hematology and Internal Medicine. He has a passion for cancer genetics and, as result of his leadership, Kansas City Cancer Center has received national recognition for its work in genetic risk evaluation, assessment, testing and management.

Markey chose to have a double mastectomy and a hysterectomy after learning she was at high risk for developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer, possibly saving her life. Her courageous story of facing the odds head on will inspire and move you.
