Internal Medicine Residency Program
St. Joseph Medical Center is pleased to announce the start of our Internal Medicine Residency Program starting in July 2025. Our facility is a licensed 310-bed acute care hospital offering a wide range of both medical and surgical specialties. The program faculty are dedicated to serving the community and shaping the future of healthcare through education. This is an ACGME certified 3-year comprehensive training program which offers 13 positions in each postgraduate year (PGY) with a total complement of 39 residents.
Our GME programs foster dynamic learning environments that prepare future physicians for career success.
Welcome Message from the Program Director
Welcome to the St. Joseph Medical Center Kansas City Internal Medicine Residency Program Website. This program is an ACGME-accredited categorical internal medicine program which matriculated its inaugural class in July 2025. The program is approved for 13 categorical residents in each post-graduate year. Our program is part of the Prime Healthcare South Consortium, which includes 4 other internal medicine programs we work closely with for educational opportunities. We are affiliated with the California University of Science and Medicine (CUSM) School of Medicine which is a Liaison Committee a Medical Education (LCME) accredited institution. Our teaching standards are consistent with university-based programs and our faculty members have academic teaching appointments which commensurate with experience.
I have had the opportunity to be involved in medical education since 2013 as clinical faculty at multiple GME programs. Teaching and training the next generation of physicians has always been my career passion. Our leadership team, including Associate Program Director and Core Faculty are an accomplished group of physicians actively practicing in multiple subspecialities. Many of us have called Kansas City home since childhood and we are excited to give back to the communities in which we grew up.
We are proud of our community roots. 83% of US hospitals are community hospitals, therefore training in a setting where you are likely to work can lead to better preparation for the transition to being an attending physician. At the same time, our affiliation with CUSM affords us the advantages that university-based programs benefit from. There are numerous opportunities to work directly with university-based research directors on scholarly activities such as Q/I projects, bench research, and clinical research. As part of the Prime Healthcare South Consortium, our residents will interact directly with residents and faculty from other programs to facilitate didactics, lectures, journal clubs, and board review.
We believe our success is based on our resident’s success. We are looking for exceptional applicants who are bright, hard-working, and motivated to be a part of our internal medicine residency program here in Kansas City. A resident-centered philosophy is the foundation of developing and maintaining both the training program and educational environment that promotes the health, wellness, and medical training needed for career success.
Thank you for taking the time to review our program. If you are looking for a supportive program committed to your success, we welcome your application.
