What are the visiting hours?
Visiting Hours
We understand the importance of support from family and friends during the healing process. To ensure the Care and privacy of all patients, visitors are welcome until 8:30 p.m., daily. Some units may have special visiting guidelines based on patients’ needs. Visitors entering the hospital after 8:30 p.m., should use the Emergency Department entrance and check in with Security for a visitors’ badge.
What do I bring to the hospital?
- List of current medications with dosages. Do not bring medications.
- List of your allergies
- Advance Directive
- Insurance card and deductibles or copays you might anticipate
- Personal care supplies for chronic conditions: ostomy pouches, incontinent supplies.
- Slippers
- Special pillows
- Hearing aids with extra batteries
- Emergency contact numbers (family members)
- Prosthetic devices/braces, walkers or crutches
- Patients may bring denture cups from home; however, the medical center provides denture cups at no charge.
Items not to bring to the hospital:
- Large sum of money
- Credit cards
- Jewelry of any kind
When is the cafeteria open?
Café Josef
Café Josef is located on the lower level of the Medical Mall near the escalators and provides a comfortable environment where visitors may enjoy a meal. A variety of menu options are available to please all tastes, including sandwiches, salads and snacks.

Monday-Friday: Continental Breakfast 8:00 am-10:30 am
Monday-Friday: Lunch Café 11:00-2:00 pm
Café Josef is closed on the weekend.
How can I find a doctor and the service they provide?

How can I request a chaplain?

Sunday – Friday 8 a.m. to 4:00 p.m
Do you have bilingual support?
Your nursing supervisor or case manager will arrange for an interpreter to come to the hospital. We work with certified interpreters from outside agencies that are regulated by various state commissions. Agencies require that interpreters sign a statement of ethical and medical confidentiality.
When an interpreter is needed quickly and only briefly, we also have interpreter services available any time of the day or night via telephone. The nursing staff can make these arrangements.
What transportation options do I have? (taxis and busses)
The Kansas City Metro makes regular stops at St. Joseph Medical Center. For information on bus schedules, call the KCTA at 816-221-0660. Taxi service is also available.
Is there a TDD phone available?
There is a TDD phone available for the hearing impaired located in the Emergency Department Information Desk (816-943-2751).
What are the gift shop and flower shop hours?
St. Joseph’s Gift Shop, located on the lower level of the Medical Mall, is open Monday-Wednesday and Friday 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Call 816-943-2776.
When is the outpatient pharmacy open ?
The St. Joseph Outpatient Pharmacy, located in the Medical Mall, is open Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.,
